What is a peer-led sober house?
A peer-led sober house is for women who are serious about their recovery and ready for more independence. There is no structured program, no phases, and no live-in house manager. Instead, three residents serve as rotating Structure Facilitators who keep the household running smoothly.
It is a middle ground between structured sober living and living entirely on your own. You get the freedom and independence of living on your own, with the safety and community of a sober household.
How does peer leadership work?
Three residents serve as rotating Structure Facilitators:
- Home Coordinator — coordinates chores, checks shared spaces, teaches new residents
- Recovery Support Coordinator — helps residents stay connected to meetings and sponsors
- House Meeting & Welcome Coordinator — facilitates the weekly house meeting, welcomes new residents
These are service roles, not management positions. They rotate among eligible residents — the house votes on how often. They observe, support, teach, and report. They do not discipline or make decisions for other residents. Debra, the owner, retains authority over admissions, drug testing, room searches, and serious incidents.
How much does it cost to live at Her Turn?
The membership fee is $175/week with utilities included. The deposit is $175 (intake & cleanup, non-refundable). No minimum commitment — stay as long as it works.
What is provided?
Her Turn is a fully furnished one-story ranch home near the 648 bus line. All utilities are paid — electricity, water, internet. The home has a swimming pool, covered patio, fire pit, full kitchen with two refrigerators, and a washer and dryer. All rooms are furnished.
Do I need to be employed?
Yes. We are looking for women who are employed, responsible, and able to cover their weekly membership fee. You can also be enrolled in school, volunteering, or receiving SSA disability. You will need to show that you can cover your fees each month.
Is this a sober living program?
No. Her Turn is not a structured sober living program, a treatment facility, or a clinical service. It is a private home where the women are sober and choose to live in an alcohol- and drug-free environment. Your recovery is your responsibility — but you will be living with other women who share that commitment.
How does the house work day-to-day?
The house is peer-led. Three residents serve as rotating Structure Facilitators who coordinate chores, support recovery participation, and welcome new residents. There is no live-in house manager telling you what to do. You are expected to be responsible, respectful, and committed to maintaining a peaceful, sober household.
Who is in charge?
Debra Batterson is the owner and retains authority over admissions, drug testing, room searches, serious rule violations, and major decisions. Day-to-day, the residents share responsibility for the household through rotating peer leadership roles. Structure Facilitators do not have authority over other residents — they serve the community, not manage it.
